About Shishu Vihar Mandal
The Mandal started first Balwadi named "SHISHU VIHAR" in Mumbai in 1936. Founded in 1936 by the great educationist, the late Padma Bhushan Smt. Tarabai Modak along with a band of devoted persons, the Mandal has now blossomed into a strong dynamic and vibrant complex of institutions known as Tarabai Modak Shikshan Kendra. The history of the Kendra is the history of the origin and progress of Pre-Primary Education in the State of Maharashtra Shishu Vihar the Pre-Primary school was the first institution of the complex, it was a play centre rather than a school for pre-school age children.
The other institutions of the Kendra came to be established one by oneto meet the needs of Shishu Vihar Children. The Bal Adhyapan Mandir was thereafter started to train Pre. Adhyapan Manal wase"ese Ahhinav Prathamik Shala primary teachers in the year 1938. The Abhinav Prathamik was opened in 1960-61 in its Silver Jubilee year to offer fuarther educational facilities to Shishu Vihar Children. The Bal Adhyapan Mandir started for pre-primary teachers was later transformed into a full fledged Training College for Teachers known as Tarabai Modak Adhyapak Vidyalaya.
The Silver Jubilee celebrated in 1962 was a landmark in the history of the Kendra in as much as a full graded school called Madhyamik Vidya Mandir was formed. It is a noteworthy feature of this institution that at each level medium of Instruction was Marathi and Gujarati. A welcome feature is that children and teachers using the two media for class work, mix freely with one another in all general activities. A n unique experiment of admitting physically disabled children to Pre-primary and Secondary Sections to give them an opportunity to study, play and enjoy life with normal children has been a great success. These students had scored ranks in the SSC Exam. One of the students is now studying Computer Science in U.S.A.
This growth of the institution from Pre-primary to Secondary stage in addition to the Junior College of Education and the mounting pressure for admission to the various sections and faculties has created the needs for improving, renovating and the existing facilities. There is a need to bring modern aids and equipment to refashion the teaching methods and introducing innovative techniques and methods so as to keep pace with the new trends in the educational field. In order to meet this requirement we need generous contributions from parents and the Public. Shishu Vihar Mandal was celebrated its Platinum Jubilee from 3rd Sept. 2010 to 2nd Sept. 2011
